Blood Hunters: a sequel series to the Awakened by Blood trilogy

Blood Hunters, Book 1

Natural enemies, deadly attraction...

Mihaela, a fearless vampire hunter secretly haunted by loneliness and childhood tragedy, finds it difficult to adjust to the new world order where vampires are not always the bad guys. She's taking a much needed vacation in Scotland when she sees a little boy being chased through the streets of Edinburgh. Rescuing him brings bigger problems - two vampires from her past: Gavril, who killed her family; and the reclusive and troubled Maximilian, gifted Renaissance artist and one-time overlord of the most powerful undead community in the world. Maximilian once saved her life and now needs that favor returned.

The earth moves for Mihaela in more ways than one. From Scotland to Budapest and Malta, she  races against time to prevent a disastrous, vampire-induced earthquake and save an innocent yet powerful child – all while fighting a dreadful attraction to Maximilian, her only ally, whom she can’t afford to trust. For Maximilian, the hunter becomes a symbol of renewed existence, as he struggles to accept his past and rediscovers his appetite for blood and sex - and maybe even happiness.

A child is born...into the final showdown of Vampire and Hunter

The face of a killer, the heart of a lost child…

Konrad once led the legendary first team of Hungarian vampire hunters. Now, refusing to ally with the undead, he goes his own way, slaughtering vampires across the length and breadth of Europe.

The dying thoughts of one such vampire send Konrad to Britain in search of a dangerous instrument that  might be just what he needs in his obsessive war with undead overlord Saloman – a war he’s determined to win at any cost. The only being who can lead him to the instrument and its current, evil possessor, is sexy, mysterious, young Glaswegian vampire Maggie, who holds herself aloof from her own kind.

Maggie sees much more than Konrad’s anger and cruelty. She makes it her mission to reach beyond the horrors of his past and find the man he should have been. Difficult, when he threatens her heart as well as everything she believes in; and when her whole being clamors for his body and his blood.

While journalists circle, about to break the news of vampire existence on mainstream television, Elizabeth Silk labors to give birth to Saloman’s daughter: and Maggie plays a dangerous game that risks everyone for her belief in one troubled man.

My third Blood Hunter: Konrad
by Marie Treanor
I won’t lie – I had trouble writing this book!
It’s the third of the Blood Hunters stories, a series close to my heart, the sixth book set in this world; and yet I knew BLOOD DESCENT would be difficult. Why? Because, between you and me, I didn’t really like my hero, Konrad L. He was too rigid and serious; I’d made him risk people’s lives in previous books, and oppose what my heroes and heroines were fighting for. So he wasn’t my favourite character. Plus, I’d given him a damned good reason to hate vampires, so it was hard to fit him in to the growing d├ętente between my hunters and the undead.
I actually thought about missing out his story, but since he’s the third of a three-person team of vampire hunters whose stories I’ve enjoyed telling so far, he really was next in line. To get round this, I then decided to make him a villain in someone else’s story - but that didn’t really work either.
On the other hand, writing him about him as a not-so-straightforward villain finally got me into his head. I began to have a sneaking liking for him after all, caught on to his sense of humour and his hard sense of justice; and I found the scenes with him began to sparkle for me far more than the scenes with my supposed hero! And when I got to the end, I just couldn’t make my heroine foil his evil plan as she was meant to. It was all wrong!
So now, understanding Konrad as I finally did, I rewrote his part in the story. Konrad is the strongest of the vampire hunters, a tough, apparently fearless man on a mission to save humanity. He is a man of rigid duty, who always does what he perceives to be right, and he knows vampires are always wrong…until he meets brash, gorgeous Glaswegian vampire Maggie, who proves herself rather more human than he’s become. Through Maggie he begins to question his assumptions and his evidence, to rediscover a softer side which had been killed by horrific experiences.
I won’t tell you how Konrad triumphs – after all, I want you to read the book! But I will say that having overcome my difficulties with him, he’s managed to become one of my favourite heroes ever J. I hope you feel the same!
So, how troubled do you like your troubled heroes?
