Book Description:
When the creatures of myth and magic return to Earth, they're nothing like your mother's fairy tales.

Most of Thulu and La Fi's clients are dead. Which is perfect since their detective agency caters to the supernatural. So, a job finding relics for an ancient daemon should be simple.

The daemon needs the relics to keep a dangerous portal closed. His enemy, Gabriel, wants the relics to open the portal and give his people access to a new feeding ground – Earth.

Stunning humanity with their existence, portals to other worlds begin to open and the creatures of magic return to Earth.

When Gabriel threatens their family, Thulu and La Fi's search becomes personal. They'll need powerful allies in the race to find the relics before Gabriel does. But maybe that's what grateful dead, magical allies and daemonic clients are for.

Relics - The Music Soundtrack

By Maer Wilson

Thanks for the chance to share some behind the scenes info about my writing process. Music is crucial to my creativity. I almost always have music on in the background. It has to be the right kind of, though.

For Relics, I had a lot of my film and gaming soundtracks playing. I listened to very few songs, unless they were included at the end of a soundtrack. I find words distracting, unless they are in a language I don’t understand, such as the music of Karl Jenkins. I have several of his albums, and played the songs “Adiemus” and “Song of Tears” - a lot. They were perfect for the quieter scenes between Thulu and La Fi.

While it depended on the kind of scene I was, mostly I tended to listen to the more epic soundtracks. The driving beat helps keep me focused and my fingers typing away at keys.

One of the soundtracks I listened to a lot was Steve Jablonsky’s Transformers: The Score. I love this soundtrack, with “Autobots” being a particular favorite. I have no idea how many times I listened to it as I wrote the book, but it was a lot.

Another favorite was the music from The Lord of the Rings films by Howard Shore. All three films. They were a great source of inspiration and there were a lot of moods coming in from those soundtracks.

Another epic sound track, King Arthur by Hans Zimmer, got quite a bit of play time, as well. As did Meet Joe Black by Thomas Newman, whose evocative melodies created the right mood for certain scenes that had more introspection. His haunting “Whisper of a Thrill” is one of my favorites pieces from that album.

No music soundtrack would complete without John Williams. At least as far as I’m concerned. I have many, many of his soundtracks including the two Harry Potter soundtracks, Empire of the Sun, Schindler’s List and of course Star Wars.

My music library contains a lot more that I listened to while writing Relics, but these are the ones that seem to best capture the book and my moods when writing it.

Thanks for letting me stop by!

About the Author:

After a successful career being other people, and later teaching others the many tricks of that trade, Maer Wilson has decided to be herself for a while.

Turns out she's a writer. She's always loved stories, especially fantasy, mystery and sci fi. Maer was born in the Year of the Dragon and has a dragon-themed room in her home, but sadly no dragons in the back yard.

When she's not writing, Maer plays online video games, teaches college and reads. She also co-hosts the literary podcast, “MythBehaving”. She lives in the high desert of Southern Nevada with her two dogs, a chihuahua and a poodle.

Relics is her first novel and will be released by Crescent Moon Press on May 1, 2013. You can visit her website at www.maerwilson.com.
